SEMION KOTLOV AND HIS STORY

Semion Kotlov.
Semion Kotlov.

Semion Kotlov was born in Glusk in 1925. He dreamed of becoming a musician, however his dream was not destined to come true.

The war changed his plans. The events were developing so quickly that on the third day of the war many Glusk residents started leaving the village. Sema, together with his friends Misha and Shay, followed them. In the end, the three friends came to Kazakhstan and began working on a collective farm.

Naturally, Sema heard rumors about how fascists were treating Jews on the occupied territories but he had no information about his family. However, I knew very well what had happened to them.

On June 27th Germans invaded Glusk. About three thousand Jews were locked up in a ghetto. On December 2nd all of them were shot on Myslochansky hill, including Sema’s 12-year-old sister Riva and our grandmother Broha and grandfather Moisey. His mother Malka, father Genah and 1-year-old sister Maya were saved by miracle.

In 1942 Sema entered Tashkent infantry school and was soon fighting against Nazis in Donbass.

In 1944 Glusk was liberated and he finally managed to establish contact with his mother, who related him about the tragedy in Glusk. He found out that his father, who had joined the local partisans, was killed.

After the war Semion left Glusk for Minsk, where he studied to become a dentist. There he fell in love with a girl named Dora. They had a son and two twin-daughters.

In 1990 Semion, together with his family, immigrated to America. They settled down in Boston and live there now.
